January 11, 2014 by Robert P. Lynch

Michael ByrneMichael Byrne was born in County Roscommon, Ireland on August 18, 1962 to Patricia and James Byrne.  He has three brothers and three sisters.  He graduated high school from Christian Brothers School Roscommon in 1980.  He went on to college in Athlone and Carlow, where he graduated as a fitter welder after four years.

Michael immigrated to the United States in 1986, where he met his future wife, Rosemarie Horohoe, fell in love, and got married in September of 1988.  They are the proud parents of four children, Fiona, Michelle, Conor, and Declan.

Mike has always promoted Irish heritage and culture.  He joined the AOH Padraic Pearse Division 3 in 1989.  He came up through the ranks within his division,  serving as Marshal for two years, Treasurer for four years, and President for two years.  He has been the St Patrick’s Day Dance Chairman for the past eight years.

Michael has been an active member of the AOH Nassau County Board, serving as County Board President for four years.   He has been actively involved with the Nassau County Feis for several years.  He is currently taking on the responsibility of Feis Chairman.

Michael also is a Director on the Hibernian Charities National Board.

Michael is a founding member of the Long Island Gaels Gaelic Football Club.  The club was organized in 2000.  He was the first President of the minor board, which was organized in 2004.  Michael has been Club Treasurer for both the minor board and senior board for the past ten years.  He has also held the position of Dance Chairman since 2002.

Michael has been an active member of the Irish American Society of Nassau, Suffolk, and Queens since 1987.  As a home improvement contractor, he has played an active role in the renovations to the center in Mineola, Long Island.

Michael has proudly marched in the New York St Patrick’s Day Parade for 22 years with the AOH in different capacities, from Division Marshal to County Board President, and he was chosen as Aide to the Grand Marshal, Ray Kelly, in 2010.

Mike finds it a great honor to have been chosen as an aide to Grand Marshal of the Glen Cove Parade, John O’Connell.  He would like to thank all who have bestowed this honor on him and to congratulate his fellow Aides to the Grand Marshal.
